Germany 1931-1943 World War II. Schindler moves to Krakow to seek his fortune. The author starts to give background details of Schindler. Schindler meets Itzhak Stern and meets most of the main characters. Schindler doesn't really care about the Jews because they work for him and he is becoming wealthy. He runs an enamerl factory inherited by his father and supplies military equipment. He moves to an apartment where Jews used to live in while the liquidation of the Ghetto.
Schindler starts to change because he's noticing that many of his Jewish workers are absent to work, because they're being hold by the Gestapo to make them shovel snow. The Nazi Party is becoming more of a conflict in Germany. All of the Jews are sent to the Ghetto (a place for the Jewish). Schindler goes to jail for kissing a Jewish worker and starts to care about the Jews. He starts to feel sympathy when most of the Jews from the Ghetto are starting to be sent to camps. Schindler was on top off a hill while looking down at the Ghetto, he sees the whole tragic of Jewish victims being killed. He feels sorrow for a girl in a red dress being seconds away from her death. Schindler starts wanting to do something for the Jews and save them from being killed. He starts to feel a compassion for the Jews.
Oskar Schindler starts to try to save Jews. He soon finds out that Stern is using his factory to hide Jews from the Gestapo. He hides them in the manner that he makes them work in the factory that way they won't get sent to labor camps. Schindler risks his life and does the same thing to save Jews. Workers at the factory will be seemed "essential" a status that saves them from removal to "death camps". Stern recognizes this fact immediately and fills the factory with many Jewish workers who the Nazi would otherwise have deemed expendable. At this point Schindler is unaware that Stern is using position to save people. When Schindler buried the Lewartow family Stern noticed that Schindler is trying to help. Schindler starts to bring in more "workers" to save Jews. He tells them they will remain there safe until the war ends.
When the war ends, Schindler tells his workers they are now free but that he will be haunted as a war criminal and must flee at midnight. When he tells his Schindlerjuden (Schindler's workers) good-bye, they give him a ring made from the gold tooth of a factory worker, in graved with the Talmudic phrase,"Whoever saves one life saves the world entire". Schindler breaks down crying and thinks of how if he would have sacrificed more, he could've saved more.
The next morning a single Russian soldier eneters the camp and tells all the Jews they are now free. Schindler then later dies and is known as a war hero. He saved approximateky 1,100 Jews. He is one of the most famous heroes of the holocaust. The novel is a true story and everything did happen. Schindler was one of the few Germans that helped Jews.
