Oskar Schindler - The protagonist and hero of the story, who saved about 1,100 Jews from the gas chambers. Schindler was a moderately successful German businessman whose father inherited the enamelware factory to Schindler. He uses bribery and ingratiation to procure military contracts to make war supplies. Schindler was born in April 28, 1908, in Zwittau, Austria- Hungary (which is now Moravia, in Czech Republic). He was catholic and questioned Hitler's belief, but because he was becoming wealthy with the cheap Jewish labor, he didnt really care what was happening to the Jews as long as he had his Jewish workers. Schindler's cheats on his wife, Emilie Schindler, and joins the Nazi party not for ideological reasons, but because it will help him make more money. He is giving an apartment in the Ghetto, who used to be a wealthy Jew's home. Schindler feels no remorse and doesn't consider the origins of his goods. Schindler initially concerned only with himself and the success of his moneymaking scheme undergoes a change that prompts him to spend his fortune to save the lives of the Jews. He did this because he couldn't stand seeing the people he knew, be sent to "death camps". The respect for Stern and the girl in the red coat made him change. Schindler became a true hero to all Jewish people.
Itzhak Stern - Bright, proud, determine,Jew, and he's like Schindler's conscience. He brings out the moral side of Schindler, and Stern's attitude towards Schindler reflects Schindler's change throughout the story. Stern recognized Schindler's callousness and greed. He doesn't approve with Schindler's morals. Stern's attitude changes as Schindler becomes, an active participant, eventually sees the good in his employer. Then when they have a drink together and after the two, say good-bye they learn off the closing of the Plazow labor camp and realize Stern will alomost certainly be sent to his death. Stern is an opportunist and he is the brains behind the rescue of the Schindlerjuden. He is the one who discovers a way to channel his essentially forced labor for Schindler into a way to help his fellow Jews.
Amon Goeth - Sadistic and ruthless. Goeth is the antagonist and villain of the story. He represents the evil of the Nazi Party like Hitler. He is a Nazi soldier in charge of buildingPlazow work camp. He is deeply in the Nazi philosophy. He views Jews as vermin creatures unworthy of possessing basic human rights. He kills often, sometimes for fun. Goeth is a complicated and conflicted man. Goeth abuses his maid all the time and doesn't want to admit he has a thing for her. He also doesn't let her wear the "star band", that way Germans won't know she's Jewsish. When Schindler wants to put Helen on his list, Goeth refuses.
Emilie Schindler - She's from Czechoslovak. Oskar's wife, she loves Oskar even if he cheats on her. She had kids with Schindler. She later in the stroy leaves Schindler.
Poldek Pfeffberg - A Jewish smuggler and Schindler's Black Market connection. He used to be a polish soldier, but he escaped from Poland. Before he beccame friends with Schindler, at the beginning of the story Poldek almost tried to kill Schindler. Also, Poldek was Schindlers "fashion stylist" and of course his Black Market connection. During the liquidation of the ghetto, he managed to escape through the sewers.
Marcel Goldberg - A friend of Poldek and a Ghetto policeman. Goldberg is an opportunist and a Black Marketer. He becomes a policeman after striking a deal with a Nazi. The job pays well, which is all he cares about. Goldberg continues to be opportunistic accepting bribes from Schindler via Stern to move Jews into Schindler's enamel factory.
Helen Hirsch - Amon Goeth's Jewish maid, who lives a tortured life as the object of Goeth, whom she despises. She faces brutal, unpredictable beating at Goeth's hands and begins to lose hope, accepting the probability of her own death. She is a representative of victims who experienced psychological abuse under the Nazi regime.
Julian Scherner - An SS officer who Schindler bribes in order to get the necessary permits for the safe of his enamelware factory. Although, Scherner is a member of the Nazi Party and buys into all the beliefs of the party, he isn't like Goeth. He represents the institutional evil that was the Third Reich.
Chaja and Danka Dresner - A jewish mother and daughter, who epitomizes family bonds and loyalty. Chaja and Danka are inseparable. During the liquidationof the Ghetto, Chaja makes the ultimate sacrifice, forcing Danka to take the last hiding spot left in a building, but none of them died there. They were sent to a labor camp. Mrs.Dresner didn't get caught after all, a German young boy was a soldier liquidating the Ghetto helped her hide because he was a close friend of Danka.
Mark Biberstain - The president of the Judenrat, the Jewish council set up by the Germans to administer Jewish affairs. Biberstain had offered a bribe to a German official to try to allow the thousand Jews to remain home, and he had to serve a jail sentence. He later meets Schindler in jail because of Schindler kissing one of his Jewish workers.
The Rosner Brothers - Jewish brothers who love to play the violin and piano. They were in Plazow at the beginning of the story. But before that, they were to move to the Ghetto and play at a restaurant as their job.
